Fill your Dispatch Mission rosters without recruiting more Comrades. Crimson Desert gives you two ways to hire extra workers: Contribution Workers (available mid-game) and Grey-0 Mechanical Workers (late-game). Both expand your dispatch capacity and free your Comrades for higher-priority assignments.

This guide is current as of Crimson Desert Version 1.10.01 (June 6, 2026). Patch 1.10 reorganized Dispatch Mission tabs from region-based to mission-based categories. All worker mechanics described below remain unchanged.

Quick Summary

  • Contribution Workers unlock after you consume the Seal of Devotion, a reward from the "Letter of Silence" faction quest in Demeniss (available from Chapter 8 onward).
  • Each Contribution Worker costs 4 Contribution Points per Dispatch Mission slot. Points return when the mission finishes or you cancel it.
  • Grey-0 Mechanical Workers unlock in the Delesyia region (around Chapter 10–11) after clearing Marni's Steel Armory and completing "Chaya" research at Dewhaven Keep.
  • You must assign at least one Comrade to any Dispatch Mission. Workers fill the remaining slots.

Method 1: Contribution Workers (Mid-Game)

Contribution Workers are temporary, skill-less hires that fill Dispatch Mission slots using your regional Contribution Points. They're the fastest way to scale your dispatch output once you reach Demeniss.

Prerequisites

  • Reach Chapter 8: Blood Coronation and complete the "Infiltrate Windemere Manor" objective.
  • Have enough Contribution Points in at least one region (you earn these through quests, liberating strongholds, bounties, and donating to beggars).

Step 1: Start the "Letter of Silence" Quest

Travel to Demeniss. Look for a beggar in the city streets and interact with him. He'll direct you to pay 1 Silver to a servant through a nearby alley window. This kicks off the "Letter of Silence" faction quest for House Azerian.

Demeniss can be hostile territory. Guards may attack on sight depending on your reputation. If that happens, use back alleys and rooftops to avoid patrols until you reach the quest NPC.

Step 2: Infiltrate the Flame Knight's Castle

Follow the quest markers to the Flame Knight's Castle in western Demeniss. The approach is guarded by Flame Knights who use flamethrowers and fire bombs. Clear them or sneak past. Stock up on healing items before entering.

Step 3: Defeat Tristan

Tristan is the boss at the end of this questline. He's fast, aggressive, and uses fire-based attacks.

Preparation Recommendation
Stats Health and Stamina at Level 4 minimum
Armor Refinement Level 4 or higher
Skill Blinding Flash for creating damage windows; Focus (Level 3) to slow time and read his patterns
Consumables Full healing stock, fire resistance buffs if available

Fight patiently. Tristan punishes long attack combos with quick counters. Block and parry his strikes to fill his stun bar, then deal damage during the stagger window. Manage your stamina so you can maintain blocks through his full combo chains.

Step 4: Activate the Seal of Devotion

Tristan drops the Seal of Devotion on death. Open your inventory, find it under Key Items, and consume it. The "Hire Contribution Worker" option permanently appears in your Dispatch Mission menu.

How to Use Contribution Workers

  1. Open the Dispatch Missions menu (now organized by mission type as of Patch 1.10).
  2. Select a mission and assign at least one Comrade to it.
  3. For remaining empty slots, select "Hire Contribution Worker." Each slot costs 4 Contribution Points.
  4. Launch the mission. Your Contribution Points return when the mission completes or you cancel it.

Contribution Workers have no skills. Assign one Comrade with the right skill as the mission leader to trigger skill bonuses, then backfill the remaining slots with Contribution Workers. This stretches your roster without wasting your best Comrades on filler slots.

Method 2: Grey-0 Mechanical Workers (Late-Game)

Grey-0 units are robotic workers you build at Marni's Steel Armory. They cost camp resources instead of Contribution Points, break through the standard Comrade limit, and can be set to auto-produce.

Prerequisites

  • Reach the Delesyia region (around Chapter 10–11 of the main story).
  • Complete the "Iron Will of Dewhaven" faction quest line.

Step 1: Liberate Marni's Steel Armory

The Armory is in the Delesyia region. Clear the facility by defeating the Mechanicus (Ironclad Warrior) boss inside. Once liberated, the Armory becomes available as a production facility for your camp.

Remove your Criminal Mask before entering. NPCs in this territory turn hostile if you're disguised, locking you out of the services you need.

Step 2: Complete "Chaya" Research at Dewhaven Keep

Travel to the Dewhaven Research Institute inside Dewhaven Keep, south-southwest of Delesyia. Talk to Researcher Heinrich to access the research tree.

  1. Locate the "Chaya" research project in the tree.
  2. You may need to provide specific materials (a Diamond has been reported as one requirement).
  3. If research stalls, visit the research assistant at Windrose Farm and provide 1 unit of Chaya. You can find Chaya in the Bearded Hills region or grow it from seeds purchased in Pailune.
  4. Complete the research to unlock Grey-0 production.

Step 3: Build Grey-0 Workers

Return to Marni's Steel Armory and start production.

Resource Cost Per Worker
Camp Tools/Weapons 5,000
Camp Timber 1,000
Camp Food 2,000
Camp Funds 10,000

Each Grey-0 takes about 4 hours of in-game time to build. Check the Dispatch Menu UI for a "Repeat" toggle at the bottom of the screen. Enable it to queue continuous production.

Which Method Should You Use?

  Contribution Workers Grey-0 Mechanical Workers
Available Chapter 8 (mid-game) Chapter 10–11 (late-game)
Cost 4 Contribution Points per slot (refundable) Camp resources (consumed)
Skills None None (best for mining-related tasks)
Limit Capped by your Contribution Points (max 100 per region) Exceeds standard Comrade limit
Best For Mid-game dispatch scaling, flexible point reallocation Late-game resource farming automation

Use Contribution Workers as soon as you reach Demeniss to start running more Dispatch Missions. Once you hit Delesyia and have camp resources to spare, add Grey-0 units to push past your Comrade cap and automate resource gathering for endgame upgrades.

Earning Contribution Points Faster

Contribution Workers are limited by your point reserves. Each region tracks Contribution separately and caps at 100 points. Focus on these activities to build your pool quickly:

  • Liberate strongholds for large XP chunks per clear.
  • Complete regional quests (main and side) tied to the territory.
  • Pick up bounties from wanted posters and faction boards.
  • Donate to beggars for small, repeatable XP gains (1 copper = 1 Contribution XP).

You can sell gear back to Contribution Shops for a full point refund. If you bought equipment you no longer need, return it and reallocate those points to hiring workers.

Troubleshooting

"Hire Contribution Worker" option doesn't appear

Check your inventory under Key Items. The Seal of Devotion must be consumed, not stored. If you defeated Tristan but can't find the item, check your private storage chest at camp.

NPCs in Dewhaven Keep are hostile

You're wearing a Criminal Mask or bandit disguise. Open your equipment menu and unequip it before interacting with NPCs.

Chaya research won't progress

Visit the research assistant at Windrose Farm. Provide 1 unit of Chaya to advance. Chaya grows in the Bearded Hills or can be planted from seeds bought in Pailune.

Workers stuck after Patch 1.10 update

Patch 1.10 changed Dispatch Mission tabs from region-based to mission-based sorting. Your existing worker assignments may appear under different tabs. Open the Dispatch Menu and check the new mission-type categories to find your active missions.

FAQ

Can Contribution Workers trigger skill bonuses on Dispatch Missions?

No. Contribution Workers have no individual skills. Place a skilled Comrade in the leader slot to activate skill bonuses, then fill remaining slots with workers.

Do I lose Contribution Points permanently when hiring workers?

No. Points spent on Contribution Workers return in full when the mission completes or you cancel it. You can reassign them to new missions or spend them at Contribution Shops.

How many Grey-0 workers can I build?

Grey-0 production has no hard cap. Your limit is the camp resources available. With the Repeat toggle enabled, you can queue indefinite production as long as your Tools, Timber, Food, and Funds hold out.

Can I use both Contribution Workers and Grey-0 units on the same Dispatch Mission?

Yes. Assign at least one Comrade, then fill remaining slots with either worker type. Mix and match based on which resources you have available.

Is there a way to increase the 100 Contribution Point cap per region?

No confirmed method as of Patch 1.10.01. The cap is 100 per region. Use the refund mechanic (sell gear back to Contribution Shops) to free up points when you need them for workers.
