Black Flag Resynced drops you into the Caribbean as Edward Kenway with a ship to upgrade, a hideout to build, and an ocean full of ships to board. The remake overhauls the original's combat, parkour, and navigation while keeping the same open-world pirate structure. This guide covers the systems new players ask about most: synchronization, ocean navigation, the Captain's Cabin, the Great Inagua hideout, and Kenway's Fleet.

This guide covers Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced at launch (July 9, 2026). It applies to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store).

Quick Tips

  • Push the main story to Sequence 4. You unlock your hideout (Great Inagua), ship upgrades, Templar Hunts, and Kenway's Fleet by the end of Sequence 4. Side content before that point is limited.
  • Synchronize every viewpoint you pass. Each one opens a fast-travel point. Fast travel saves minutes of sailing when you return to collect side content later.
  • Board ships, do not sink them. Boarding gives you more resources (wood, metal, cloth, rum) and lets you repair the Jackdaw for free. Sinking a ship wastes half its cargo.
  • Use your Spyglass before every fight. Zoom in on a ship to see its level, cargo, and type. Pick fights you can win and targets carrying the materials you need.
  • Upgrade the Jackdaw before the hideout. Ship cannons, hull armor, and ram upgrades keep you alive. Hideout buildings are secondary.
  • Turn on Area Loot in settings. One button press collects loot from every nearby body. It saves time in every fight.
  • Use smoke bombs when outnumbered. They break enemy vision, let you escape, and set up easy stealth kills on dazed guards.

What Is Synchronize and How Does It Work?

Synchronization is the act of climbing to the top of a Viewpoint and interacting with the eagle perch. Doing so reveals nearby activities on your map and creates a fast-travel destination at that location.

How to Synchronize

  1. Find a Viewpoint. They appear as white eagle icons on your map.
  2. Climb to the top of the structure. Look for the wooden perch jutting out from the highest point.
  3. Stand on the perch and press the interaction button when prompted.
  4. Edward performs the signature Leap of Faith dive, and the surrounding area fills in on your map.
  5. The icon turns yellow, marking it as an active fast-travel point.

When Does Fast Travel Unlock?

Fast travel is locked at the start of the game. You must complete the quest "This Tyro Captain" at the end of Sequence 3 to unlock it. After that, you can fast travel to any synchronized Viewpoint or named location dock from the map screen.

Why You Should Synchronize Early

Named location docks drop you at the entrance of an island. Synchronized viewpoints place you at elevated positions further inland. If you need to reach a specific collectible, Templar Hunt, or Assassination Contract, a nearby viewpoint saves you a longer run from the docks.

Synchronize at least one viewpoint per major island during the main story. When you return for side content in later sequences, the travel network pays off.

How to Use the Pathfinder to Navigate the Ocean

The Pathfinder is a new navigation tool in Resynced that did not exist in the 2013 original. It highlights an optimal route from your current position to any pinned map destination.

AC Black Flag Resynced navigation

Setting a Path

  1. Open the map and place a marker on your destination.
  2. Close the map. A highlighted route appears in the game world, guiding the Jackdaw toward your marker.
  3. Steer the ship along the path, or use Follow Sea (see below) to automate the trip.

Follow Sea (Autopilot)

Follow Sea is a companion feature to the Pathfinder. Once you set a path, activate Follow Sea to let the Jackdaw steer itself along the route. You stay on the ship and can look around, but the wheel turns on its own.

Follow Sea disengages if you enter combat, sail into a restricted zone, or take manual control of the wheel. It works best for long open-water trips between islands where no threats are nearby.

When to Use the Pathfinder

The Pathfinder is most useful for cross-map trips where you cannot see your destination. Short hops between nearby islands are faster to eyeball. For longer routes, pin the destination and let the path guide you past rocks and shallow water that could slow the Jackdaw.

Where to Access Your Captain's Cabin

The Captain's Cabin is at the stern (rear) of the Jackdaw, behind the ship's wheel.

Getting Inside

  1. Walk to the back of the Jackdaw, past the ship's wheel.
  2. Jump over the railing or walk around to the cabin doors at the very rear of the ship.
  3. Press the interaction button when the prompt appears.

The cabin loads as a separate interior. It does not connect to the rest of the ship's below-deck areas.

What You Can Do in the Captain's Cabin

Interaction What It Does
Fleet Planning Table Manage Kenway's Fleet: send ships on trade missions, collect rewards, repair damaged vessels
Model Ship Customize the Jackdaw's appearance (sails, figurehead, wheel design)
Mannequin Change Edward's outfit
Ship's Pet Choose or change the animal companion aboard the Jackdaw
Animus Access View Animus Anomalies and access the Animus Hub

You can also access the fleet and some of these features from the planning table in your Great Inagua hideout. The Captain's Cabin is the portable version you always have available while sailing.

How Does the Hideout System Work?

Your hideout is the island of Great Inagua. You unlock it during the "This Old Cove" quest in Sequence 4. After that, you can upgrade buildings on the island by spending Reales (the game's currency) at the desk inside the manor's main room.

Available Upgrades

Building Levels What It Does Priority
Harbourmaster 1–3 Unlocks Tier II and III upgrades for the Jackdaw. Required for hull armor, advanced cannons, and elite mortar. First
General Store 1–3 Expands the shop inventory: crafting skins, ammunition types, and weapons including legendaries at Level 3. Second
Tavern 1–3 Recruits crew members for boarding actions. Higher levels give tougher recruits. Third
Campfire 1 Lets you hire drunk pirates for free. Minor convenience. Fourth
Manor Facade, Tower, Gardens, Guest House 1 each Cosmetic. No gameplay advantage. The Guest House counts toward 100% completion. Last

Upgrade Strategy

The Harbourmaster is the gate between you and a survivable Jackdaw. Without Harbourmaster Level 2, you cannot buy hull armor past the first tier, and you will start losing naval fights in Sequence 5 and beyond. Spend your first Reales on the Harbourmaster, then on the Jackdaw upgrades it unlocks.

The General Store is second because it stocks crafting materials and weapon blueprints. Everything else is convenience or cosmetic. Save those for after your ship can handle Man-o-Wars.

Best Way to Build and Manage Your Fleet

Kenway's Fleet is a ship-management system that generates passive income and trade goods. You capture enemy ships during naval combat, assign them to your fleet, and send them on missions from the planning table.

AC Black Flag Resynced planning map

Unlocking the Fleet

The fleet becomes available after completing "This Old Cove" in Sequence 4. Access it from the planning table in the Captain's Cabin or the one in the Great Inagua manor.

Capturing Ships

  1. Damage an enemy ship with naval combat until its health is low enough to board.
  2. Board the ship and defeat the crew.
  3. At the post-battle prompt, select "Send to Kenway's Fleet" instead of using the ship to repair the Jackdaw or lower your wanted level.

One thing to know: if you swim to an enemy ship and board it manually (without weakening it with cannons first), you skip the post-battle menu. That means you cannot send it to your fleet using this method. Stick to standard naval combat for fleet captures.

Fleet Composition

Your docks expand as you upgrade the Harbourmaster. A full fleet holds ten ships. Keep nine filled and leave one slot open so you can grab a high-level ship when you find one.

Ship Type Strength Recommended Count
Schooner Fast, good for short trade routes 2
Brig Versatile, strong for piracy missions 4
Frigate Durable, handles medium-risk routes 1–2
Man-o-War Highest health, required for dangerous long-distance missions 1–2

Aim for 3-star (highest rarity) versions of each type. They have more health and survive tougher missions without needing repairs.

Mission Types

Mission Purpose Notes
Trade Earn Reales Your main income source. Assign ships with enough health to cover the route's max damage.
Piracy Earn Reales and goods Brigs perform best here. Higher risk than trade routes.
Scout Restock trade goods in warehouses Run these when a trade route requires goods you are short on (wine, sugar, tobacco).
Patrol Lower route danger level Send Man-o-Wars on patrol before assigning smaller ships to dangerous routes.

Fleet Tips

  • Check damage ranges before dispatching. Every mission shows a min/max damage estimate. Send ships whose health exceeds the maximum possible damage. Ships that take more damage than their health are destroyed.
  • Unlock regions by capturing forts. Trade routes in locked regions are inaccessible. Assault the fort guarding each region to open its routes.
  • Repair before reassigning. Damaged ships have reduced health for their next mission. Repair them at the planning table before sending them out again.
  • Salvage weak ships. If you capture a 1-star Schooner and already have a 3-star version, salvage the weaker ship for resources to free the dock slot.

Combat and Stealth Basics

Resynced replaces the original's counter-focused combat with a parry-based system closer to recent action games. Fights are faster and more punishing if you mash buttons without watching enemy animations.

AC Black Flag Resynced Edward Kenway sword combat perfect parry

Perfect Parry

When an enemy attacks, watch for a blue flash on their weapon. Press the parry button (L1/LB) as the attack connects. A successful parry opens a window for an instant-kill Takedown or a counter-attack chain. Parries are omnidirectional: you can parry attacks from behind or the side without facing the attacker.

Chain Takedowns

After a successful parry, you can chain Takedowns across multiple nearby enemies. The game slows time between each chained kill, letting you pick your next target. Use this to clear groups of three or four guards without taking a hit.

Combat Tools

Smoke bombs blind nearby enemies and let you perform stealth kills on stunned targets. The kick breaks an enemy's guard stance and knocks enemies off ledges or ship rails into the water for an instant kill. Both tools turn messy fights into clean ones.

Stealth

Resynced adds manual crouching to the original's stealth system. Hide in bushes, hay bales, and on rooftops. Whistle to lure a single guard into cover for a quiet takedown. Stealth is optional in most missions, but it reduces the chance of reinforcements and keeps your health intact for harder sections ahead.

Settings You Should Change

Three settings in the Gameplay menu improve quality of life from minute one.

Setting Where What It Does
Area Loot System Menu → Gameplay → Playstyle One button press collects loot from all nearby bodies. Saves time after every fight.
Advanced Parkour System Menu → Gameplay → Playstyle Enables side ejects and back ejects during free-running. More control, but takes practice.
Ship Camera Sway / Screen Shake Gameplay → Motion and Camera Disable both if you get motion sickness during sailing or combat.

Area Loot is the one to turn on first. It eliminates the need to loot each body one at a time, which adds up across hundreds of encounters.

Common Beginner Mistakes

Mistake Why It Hurts What to Do Instead
Sinking ships instead of boarding You lose half the cargo and get no crew, repair, or fleet option Board every ship you can. Select the reward that helps you most at the post-battle prompt.
Attacking Man-o-Wars too early They have massive health and firepower. An under-upgraded Jackdaw sinks fast. Use the Spyglass to check ship level. Avoid anything with a skull icon until your hull and cannons are upgraded.
Ignoring the Harbourmaster Jackdaw upgrades past Tier I are locked behind Harbourmaster levels Upgrade the Harbourmaster at Great Inagua before spending Reales on cosmetics.
Skipping viewpoints No fast-travel points forces long sailing trips to revisit areas Synchronize at least one viewpoint per island during the story.
Spending all Reales on hideout cosmetics Reales are limited early on. Cosmetic upgrades give no gameplay benefit. Fund the Jackdaw and Harbourmaster first. Cosmetic buildings can wait until you farm Reales from fleet missions.
Forgetting Heavy Shot exists Missing a high-damage finishing tool that ends boarding setups faster Heavy Shot fires without aiming, has short range, and deals massive damage. Use it point-blank to soften ships for boarding.

FAQ

What is the Animus Hub?

Resynced removes the modern-day story segments from the original game. In their place is the Animus Hub, a menu system with rotating "projects" (similar to a seasonal battle pass). Complete objectives to earn Data Fragments and unlock cosmetic rewards. It does not affect the main story or gameplay.

Is there new story content in Resynced?

Yes. Resynced includes "A World Without Gold," a new endgame storyline with eight missions focused on Blackbeard. It expands his role in the narrative beyond the original game's ending.

Does the game have RPG elements or level-gated content?

No. Unlike Assassin's Creed Odyssey or Valhalla, Resynced has no skill trees, no level-gated zones, and no RPG stat progression. Progression comes from upgrading the Jackdaw, unlocking weapons, and buying gear. Any enemy can be fought at any point if your equipment and skills are up to it.

How do I earn Reales fast?

Board and loot ships. Brigs and Frigates carry valuable cargo. Send captured ships on fleet Trade missions for passive Reales income. Assault forts to open new trade regions, then run your fleet on the higher-paying routes.

Can I use the Pathfinder on land?

The Pathfinder works on both land and sea. Pin a destination on the map and a route highlights in the game world. On land, it is less necessary since objectives are closer together, but it helps in dense cities like Havana and Nassau where streets overlap.

What happened to the modern-day sections?

Ubisoft removed all modern-day story content from Resynced. The game focuses on Edward Kenway's pirate story from start to finish. The Animus Hub replaces the modern-day segments with a cosmetic reward system.
